10 Favorite Movies from My Childhood


I'm not sure what years constitute my childhood but here goes...

  1. Dirty Dancing--I know. Children shouldn't have been allowed to watch it since the one brief sex scene hadn't been edited out.

  2. The Princess Bride--So many quotes in this one. So little time...

  3. E.T.--It was the first movie I remember seeing in the theatre.

  4. Cocktail--My best friend at the time and I loved this one. Pre-crazy Tom Cruise...those were the days.

  5. National Lampoon's Vacation--The original one. Good grief we watched this everyday the summer of '84.

  6. Ghostbusters--Perhaps it was because of their catchy song. Or maybe because the library reminded me of the library my mom worked in at the time.

  7. Beverly Hills Cop--I think because it was one of the first movies we owned on VHS.

  8. Back to the Future--Come on, Micheal J. Fox was a hottie.

  9. Pretty Woman--A fairy tale with hookers. Again, what's not to like?

  10. Can't Buy Me Love--Mmmhmm, Patrick Dempsey pre-McDreamy. I was onto something
All these movies were pre-high school for me so I guess that's childhood. None were animated. That's interesting. And to the best of my knowledge, none were rated R. I wonder how this list would be different for kids growing up today?

I still really love many of these movies. Here are a few honorable mentions that I couldn't squeeze on the list: Ferris Bueller's Day Off, Gremlins, and The Lost Boys.

As a bonus, here are a few movies from that time that I didn't adore back then but do now (or did by high school even): Say Anything, When Harry Met Sally, Heathers, Bull Durham, Some Kind of Wonderful, The Breakfast Club, The Natural, and Sixteen Candles (let's be honest, any John Hughes movie).

Guess you're younger than I am by a few years... but these are all good movies. You're right about Pretty Woman, of course. Vacation, Princess Bride, Beverly Hill Cop... all terrific.

Smokey and the Bandit!!! Still one of my favorites. You may ask "why?". Well, there was a cool car, a cute girl (Sally Field was a cutie in her day) and the whole reason for the chase was to get beer. Not to mention the burnout for no aparent reason.

For another list of 100 I blame Geek . hey, would you like to see the nursery?

After a very productive week/weekend, the nursery is just about done. I think the only thing I want to do is whip up a simple padded headboard and Hubby needs to trim down the legs on a little footstool. That's it! Finally! So without further ado... This is what you see when you walk in the door. Too bad the baby won't be able to appreciate it right away. (And I'll apologize right off the bat for having some wonky-colored photographs in this post. I just don't have the energy to fix things. At least on my monitor, the above pic is roughly true-to-life.) Would you like to see that awesome rug a little better? Man, I love it. It was the one splurge for the room but it has such great colors, fun animals and designs, and is round. All my criteria were met. Love. Here's the corner with the crib.
