I haven't looked this one up. I just thought I'd poll the masses. How do you feel about someone telling you what to wear to his/her wedding? I'm not talking dressing for the occasion (which I try to always do). I'm not talking bridesmaids. I'm talking guests. Guests are requested to wear black. Why? I don't know.

I've been in my fair share of weddings. I have no problem wearing crazy things or going to crazy events or handling crazy relatives in those instances. You love the bride- or groom-to-be. It is their day. You do what they want you to do. Luckily, I've had very reasonable friends and no ugly dresses. Well, if you don't count the pink taffeta one--in all fairness it was the '80s and I think I even liked it back then.

I don't really like people telling me what to do. It makes me want to do the opposite (i.e., wear white and maybe a veil, carry some flowers. Or wear black but look like a hooker or maybe go Goth.). But I won't. As much as it bothers me, I'm the kind of person who sticks to the rules. I'll wear black. I'll look appropriate.

The thing is, the person who is getting married is a relative. She is, of course, younger than I am (this happens frequently now). When we were growing up she was the pretty one. I was the smart one. Don't get me wrong, I love being the smart one in any group. And no one said I was ugly or had "a good personality." It just would have been nice to hear someone other than my mother compliment my appearance growing up. It has given me issues. And then because of other issues, it bothers me that this bothers me. Sigh...this is what you get when you major in psychology. So not only do I have to wear black but I need a dress that says "I'm not just smart, I'm pretty." :o) Oh, and did I mention that I don't have a date and my relatives are worrying about me because I'm still single?

I have heard of this before - an all black and white wedding - I understand it's very classy. Go with the flow - it'll be neat. I bet you'll find the perfect "smart AND pretty" dress! They say every woman needs the perfect little black dress anyway - now you'll have it and be prepared for anything!

Watch the SATC episode when Miranda's friend gets married and Charolette is a bridesmaid and says 'This time, people are going to LOOK AT ME!!!' She had a sexy black dress on, too, so that's bonus! Maybe you'll get some ideas.

BTW, I think it's bogus to worry about what your guests wear. It sounds like they want it to be black tie, but just don't want to say that. Just say it, damnit, and let us all understand.

I would be pissed if one of my relatives told me what to wear. You're just lucky it's not periwinkle, or some other strange color.

One thing about black & white weddings - does the bride invite an equal number of black guests & white guests? How does that work??

Is it an Ebony and Ivory wedding? That sounds so racist...

Ha! That's what I was thinking. Especially when Bubba's Mom said "an equal number of black guests and white guests." It's rural South Texas. My bet is there will be no Black guests. :o) Also, could probably be the same reason "black tie" wasn't mentioned. The rednecks don't even own ties...

CJH- you have beautiful and rare red (not brassy, just the right amount of blondish color) hair and blue eyes that are as beautiful and deep as the ocean. Many have tried to imitate those eyes (by way of colored contact, but to no avail. There is no comparison). You're lips are full and flawlessly shaped. Again, many try to replicate what you naturally have by injecting themselves with potentially deadly substances. You're skin is similar to that of a delicate porcelan doll. No "red-head" freckles here! Your smile is radiant, engaging, sincere and sometimes, shy. You have a shapely set of long, lean gams that end in a perfectly rounded, great a$$!! You're going to look smokin' hot in your little black dress!!
